Workshops
Throughout the gardening season, we offer several different public workshops. Workshops are taught by both special guests and the Coordinator. Some workshops offered in previous years have been:
  • Introduction to Vegetable Gardening
  • Alternatives to Pesticides
  • Water Conservation in the Garden
  • Introduction to Intensive Gardening
  • Creating Healthy Soil
All public workshops are free and are offered either at the Moose Jaw Public Library or at the Yara Community Gardens patio. Check back for updates about upcoming events.

Contact the office for more information.

Grey Avenue Playground
In the summer of 2010, we started our fourth community garden site in Moose Jaw. The Grey Avenue garden has the benefit of both a sunny garden space and a shaded tree line perfect for rest and recreation. Last summer, we developed the green space with patio space, picnic tables and an interactive playground.

This playground is open to all community members, and particularly all participants of the community garden program. The playground was lovingly put together by many volunteers and now is a permanent part of our green space.

Grey Avenue's green space hosts our summer potlucks, lunch n' learn workshops and the Pumpkin Harvest Festival in the fall.

Grow-A-Row Promotion

At the community gardens, we think it is important to work alongside the community to serve the needs of those most vulnerable. One way we strive to do that is through the Grow-A-Row promotion. Each year, we invite organizations and businesses to sponsor a row of produce which our volunteers will grow, harvest and donate to a local charity in that group's name. This enables the community to provide fresh produce to those in need while also supporting the growth of the community gardens.
Every year, we are able to donate approximately 400 lbs of fresh potatoes.
